Dear Sir I have a Sony playstation 2 (SCPH-79004) with board GH-062-02 and I want to modify it to play free games, boot on import, backups, ntsc, pal games. Iread that there are a lot of (mod)chips available (e.g. Infinity 1.88) but I don't know the differences between them. Please can you explain me what kind op chips are available for my board and what are the differences between them. Can you also give me the price of this chip and the pictures how to install the chip on the board. Is themodification directly active when the chip is soldered on the board or must the chip be programmed/updated by myself (I expect that the FPGA is pogrammed)? Regards M. Swarzkopff

I tried some of my old ps1 backups on the Chipped PS2 with Modbo 4.0 and it keeps coming up 'please insert playstation or playstation 2 disc'It still comes up to the pink/red screen saying to insert disc. ;)
I know these work, as they do so in my modded PS1.

A.Your console has a different Laser than the PS1- different reading range- PS2 is known to read different brand of discs-
Also if there is scratch or fingerprint on discs you are making it hard for your console to read them-
Modbo Chips come with a Matrix Infinity 1.93 or 1.99 Infinity Manager - When turn on the console keep 'Circle' and 'Triangle' pressed down on the Sony Hand controller till the Infinity Manager displays on the TV- now make sure you have the correct settings to play PS1 Games ( and Dual Layer DVD-9 Games while you are at it ) and check any other settings that you may wish to turn on or off.
Testing your console with PS2 and PS1 copied games works Fine - Try Using "Laser" brand CD ( you can get them everywhere )
The Best Brand CD for PSOne backups was Mitsui GOLD and Pioneer Blue - But these 2 Brands do not work as well on PS2 as the reflective surface is not optimum for the Playstation 2 Laser Calibration Reading Range.

Test Loading Revision 1
PS2 Games
Open tray, insert any PS2 Game, close tray, hold PS2 console reset button (Green lit Button) until PS2 powers off (Unit goes into standby mode and Small light turns red) then hit the PS2 console reset button once quickly to power on the unit and launch the game.
PS1 Games
Open tray, insert any PS1 Game, close tray, hold PS2 console reset button (Green lit Button) until PS2 powers off (Unit goes into standby mode and Small light turns red) then hold the PS2 console reset button about 2-3 seconds - or until the consoles eject button light turns blue- to launch the game or Tap Reset Button Twice Quickly to power on Console.
DVD Movies
Open tray, insert any DVD Movie, close tray, hold PS2 console reset button (Green lit Button) until PS2 powers off (Unit goes into standby mode and Small light turns red) then hold the PS2 console reset button about 2-3 seconds - or until the consoles eject button light turns blue- to launch the Movie or Tap Reset Button Twice Quickly to power on Console.
To turn Modchip Off
When Console is in standby mode and Small light turns red power on the PS2 console by holding the reset button for 3-4 seconds to power on the unit and launch the game.
If CD Games are Working and DVD Games are not ( or Vica Versa )
1. Solder is not connecting on the Modchip . Recheck your Soldering - Try checking solder points B, G, H, I.
2. Some modchips come with an onscreen ( TV ) Bios Manager like Matrix Infinity, DMS , Modbo etc. Boot to the Onscreen Manager and make certain the correct settings are enabled.
3. Most modchips can be Disabled or Disarmed ( Turned off ) for a sessions - Infinity and Modbo press and Hold "START" on Game Pad while power on Console
Try an Original DVD or CD Game in this mode - Sometimes this can help determine if its a modchip Fault. ( Trouble Shooting Guides Below.)
4. You must also Consider that Your Playstation 2 Laser is not working properly - it has a Dual Laser Eye- one for DVD and one for CD Media- Very often one can be working and the other is not- you can try calibrating the non working Laser by carefully adjusting the pot heads on the Laser Eye or Replace the Laser with a new unit.

ACTION REPLAY is PAL
GAMESHARK is NTSC
But greatly you can use any card on any PS2 - and enter either codes on either device Pal and NTSC Game Cheats.
Just that a Gameshark comes w Preloaded NTSC Cheats and ACTION REPLAY comes w PAL Game Cheats Preloaded.
You can also get a memory card manager that lets you connect a PS2 mem card ( or PSOne ) to USB to PC and download a "PS2 Game Save Manager"
and download all The Game saves of any games you want.

Sorry about all the calls today reguarding the ps2, thanks for all help. one last thing, ps2 is working great with all our games ( when we first tried it it wouldnt read any ps2 game, reads all fine now) the ps2 turns on fine, then loads the game, then the screen size changes, and we loose the bottom half of the screen, with a black line at the top ... any ideas? thanks a heap

A. We suggest try changing the television Signal - ( Usually found on TV on screen menu or a small selectable physical switch on the TV itself )
eg . if on AUTO change to NTSC output ( or if on PAL change to AUTO ) until correct alignment occurs.
Some modchips for Wii PS2 and Xbox 360 also have Firmware and Managers that allow you to change the signal output of the console - example - Matrix Infinity Manager.

Just finished soldering Mobo760 on Version12 PS2. You have very good instructions. I followed exactly 1, then 2, etc to 6. A good order as step 1 was the hardest because the wire does not fit in the little holes. Spot B I put a glob of solder ( Editors Note: Globules: (plrl) ) and it holds but the others are too close together, so I try file a little on the wire so it fit inside and try to solder. Not sure if I got any solder down there as its too small, maybe just a little as it does not pull out easily anymore. I hope it is enough. I have not put the laser fix on yet. I'll try to see if its still working before I do laser fix. Hahaha. I need a rest now. Put it together tonight and try it out. If it works, I'll do the laser fix.Very stressful. I should just pay you to do it. Hahaha.A.1
Hello VIENG THE MIGHTY (you give me good laugh Loud ))))))))) See just this is worth it - to make modchip-wizard laugh !!! ))))) If you have multi meter - check each close point to see if one is not connected to next one ---- for each point - before power on console is ideal.

Dear Great Modchip-Wizard, No, I'm sorry, it is Vieng The Terrible. The good news is that I did not destroy the PS2. It works just like before. No problems. The bad news is that the modchip does nothing. I put in a purchased game from China and it still complains that its not a PS2 format DVD. (I know this DVD works with Disk Swap method on Version 5 PS2). The multimeter idea was a Great idea. I don't know why I did not think of it... I am not a wise as The Great Modchip Wizard. I thought I did such a good job (except for the little solder in the tiny holes in step 1) so I also did the laser fix. I can't believe it did not work.... I noticed in your diagram you did NOT have an onboard solder (no wire) for the other GND (next to M) to the PS2 but your photo looks like it has. So I solder that groove on too like you. I hope this OK? So, tonight I rest and sleep. Tomorrow I open it up again and carefully take off the electrical tape, 1) try more solder in the little holes 2) check all connections again. Like you say, check all neighbor connections. 3) I did notice that I did not get continuity between the pad on P and the onboard solder. I might put a dab on the solder and drag up solder all the way to the P pad. Maybe the wire is broken inside the circuit board. I noticed that the GND wire gets squashed when I close it so the plastic case now does not close 100% but still ok. I might resolder that to make it flatter. Regards, Vieng The Terrible.A.2

A. Many of the different mod chips available from modchip-wizard for playstation 2 will work in SCPH-79001 - Mars Pro GM816HD is a fine chip - Matrix infinity is also very popular .
Q. I have 2 PS2 consoles SCPH-77002 and the old large model SCPH 39002 - which should I modchip to play games from Japan.
A. SCPH 39002 and SCPH 77002 are both excellent model Playstation 2 consoles to modify. - Flip a coin.
Q. Are there any model Playstation 2 console models that should be avoided- modification wise.
A. SCPH 30002 Version 4 / SCPH 30002R / SCPH 50002 Version 9 / SCPH 70002 Version 12 Slim - are not the best models to modify- Note SCPH 50002 Version 10 is excellent and SCPH 70002 Version13 are also OK.. The models listed above are all OK to modchip but using heavily scratched or unclean discs and the wrong brand of CDR CDRW DVD DVDRW can cause these models to stop reading discs.
