Cygnos360 V2 reads and flashes the Xbox360 NANDs in very high speed. Dumping a full 512Mb image takes less than 10 minutes, the 16Mb NANDs are dumped in a few seconds.
Cygnos 360 V2 PCB is high quality and leaves us only after having performed a self test done by the onboard microcontroller. Our firmware is upgradable in the field and we have already reached Firmware 1.06 since we launched Cygnos360 V2 in August last year. Since then we have improved every detail of the chip and eased up installation even more.
Cygnos360 V2 has lots of quicksolder points, also connecting to the JTAG interface for performing the so called “JTAG HACK”. In contrast to other solutions however, Cygnos360 makes proper injections to the port controlled by our onboard microcontroller. Wiring cables to the JTAG port or installing diodes or resistors is not necessary. Cygnos360 V2 is therefore the only solution to perform the JTAG hack in a proper manner whereas the wiring with resistors or diodes only approximates the voltages and may cause damage to the xbox 360. Cygnos360 fully avoids these risks!

There has been another development in the never-ending battle that is Microsoft trying to keep its gaming system closed to unauthorized use. Xbox-scene reports that a new hack called freeBOOT v0.01 allows the Xbox 360 to upgrade to the newer kernels, but allows the option of rebooting to an older kernel in order use the JTAG exploit and gain access to the hardware.
In case you missed it, the JTAG hack is a way to run homebrew code on an Xbox 360. Exploiting this hack makes it possible to boot a Linux kernel in about five seconds. We’ve long been fans of the homebrew work done with XBMC on the original Xbox and hope that advances like this will lead to that end. We want this because the older hardware cannot handle high definition content at full resolution but the Xbox 360 certainly can.
This exploit is still far from perfect. It currently requires that the Cygnos360 mod chip be installed on the system for certain Xbox 360 Models but runs independant of a Xbox 360 Mod Chip / Hack on earlier model Xbox 360 Dashboard versions. A resistor also needs to be removed from the board to prevent accidental kernel updating. That being said, this is still progress. If you’re interested in step-by-step details.

Xbox 360 Mod - Cygnos ToolBox v1.10 beta 5 From Team Cygnos: A new Xbox 360 Modding Tool - Toolbox 1.10 beta 5 is available for download. It adds an "Erase" button to the "Program Flash" dialog, allowing you to erase your whole NAND-flash memory, while retaining your invalid block information. This may be useful to those who have problems storing data on their internal memory unit and who therefore want to "remove" it. After the Xbox 360 NAND-flash has been completely erased, at least the "system" partition needs to be reprogrammed with the "Program Flash Memory" option.

In the Xbox 360, on-board NAND-flash memory stores important data like the hypervisor, kernel, and key vault.
Please note that some of the possible uses of Cygnos 360 require you to know your Xbox 360 CPU key. At the moment, this key can only be extracted by booting a vulnerable kernel, such as version 4532 or 4548. If your current kernel version is newer than 4548, you will have to downgrade, which is up to date only possible with non HDMI Xbox 360 models (as far as we know production dates earlier than July 2007 are safe)
A kernel version older than 4532 does not pose a problem, since it can be upgraded to either version 4532 or 4548. Downgrading the Xbox 360 as well as programming Cygnos 360 assumes the temporary installation of an Infectus 1 or 2 mod-chip.
