Xbox-scene reports that a new hack called freeBOOT v0.01 allows the Xbox 360 to upgrade to the newer kernels, but allows the option of rebooting to an older kernel in order use the JTAG exploit and gain access to the hardware.     In case you missed it, the JTAG hack is a way to run homebrew code on an Xbox 360. Exploiting this hack makes it possible to boot a Linux kernel in about five seconds. We’ve long been fans of the homebrew work done with XBMC on the original Xbox and hope that advances like this will lead to that end. We want this because the older hardware cannot handle high definition content at full resolution but the Xbox 360 certainly can.     This exploit is still far from perfect. It currently requires that the Cygnos360 mod chip be installed on the system for certain Xbox 360 Models but runs independant of a Xbox 360 Mod Chip / Hack on earlier model Xbox 360 Dashboard versions. XBOX 360 extra disc checks are being performed, but it is only a matter of time before a game will. The same sort of checks were introduced to XBox1 games a while ago. I performed an exhaustive check of every command that the Samsung firmware can respond to and these differences were discovered.
The Samsung firmware only supports a limited subset of commands from the MMC-3/4 standards so not all commands exist compared to a standard PC drive, so anyone testing for media specific information should bear this in mind.

Xbox 360 Stealth backups will still boot with non-stealth firmware but will be exposed to the above top three differences (PSN Lockdown,PFI,DMI) making the backup detectable. Correct Video partition is present.

The Xtractor 360 can be interfaced with USB or Serial Cable and also includes a drive power converter so you do not need to power on your Lite-On drive with the XBOX 360.

 

The Xtractor Lite-on 360 kit is supported by the Maximus Toolbox and the process to extract the keys is very simple and straight-forward.

Dumping a full 512Mb image takes less than 10 minutes, the 16Mb NANDs are dumped in a few seconds.   Cygnos 360 V2 PCB is high quality and leaves us only after having performed a self test done by the onboard microcontroller. Our firmware is upgradable in the field and we have already reached Firmware 1.06 since we launched Cygnos360 V2 in August last year. Since then we have improved every detail of the chip and eased up installation even more.   Cygnos360 V2 has lots of quicksolder points, also connecting to the JTAG interface for performing the so called “JTAG HACK”. In contrast to other solutions however, Cygnos360 makes proper injections to the port controlled by our onboard microcontroller. Wiring cables to the JTAG port or installing diodes or resistors is not necessary. Cygnos360 V2 is therefore the only solution to perform the JTAG hack in a proper manner whereas the wiring with resistors or diodes only approximates the voltages and may cause damage to the xbox 360.
