Latest Custom Firmware Xbox 360 - iXtreme 1.6 - XBOX 360
I sent in an XBOX 360 Falcon version a little over a year ago and had the NME 2.0 modchip installed. EVerything has been absolutely perfect. Yesterday however I got a bottom red light E74 error. I know that's not good.
I went ahead and bought a new ELITE XBOX 360 and I actually own a XBOX 360 opener tool and have opened a few 360's before so I opened both up to take a look. I put the old DVD-ROM drive with the NME v2.0 chip installed into the new ELITE 360 and moved the front chipboard RF0 Module (single wire soldered for power on/off NME Chip) over to the new ELITE 360. I noticed the front RF0 module of the old Xbox was Rev H RF01 and the one I took out from the ELITE is Rev A RF02 (they also looked different w/ the new one missing a manufactured chip). The new ELITE xbox w/ the old DVD-ROM drive NME 2.0 installed booted up OK. Everything seemed to be working but when I tried to run or try a copied/backup game it did not work.
The OLD DVD-ROM drive w/ NMEv2.0 installed is Phillips & BenQ Storage Corp - Hw Ver J-DA1A4 Manufactured 2007. The NEW ELITE DVD-ROM drive I have is Phillips & Lite-on Digital Solution Corp - Hw Ver A0A2 Manufactured August 2009.
Please tell me my best solution w/ the Phillips & Lite-on A0A2 drive? Should I firmware flash only or send in mail for NMEv2.0 install? Will you be able to install the chip w/ out the console also? Not sure if wires need to be soldered else where? Can the old DVD-ROM drive be used with the new hardware of the XBOX ELITE?
All my games are formatted with NME Associator program to make each game an exact size of 7,705,657,344 bytes. Will these backups still work with firmware (iXtreme 1.6)

Xbox 360  JTAG HACK - XBOX HOMEBREW DASH
There has been another development in the never-ending battle that is Microsoft trying to keep its gaming system closed to unauthorized use. Xbox-scene reports that a new hack called freeBOOT v0.01 allows the Xbox 360 to upgrade to the newer kernels, but allows the option of rebooting to an older kernel in order use the JTAG exploit and gain access to the hardware.
In case you missed it, the JTAG hack is a way to run homebrew code on an Xbox 360. Exploiting this hack makes it possible to boot a Linux kernel in about five seconds. We’ve long been fans of the homebrew work done with XBMC on the original Xbox and hope that advances like this will lead to that end. We want this because the older hardware cannot handle high definition content at full resolution but the Xbox 360 certainly can.
This exploit is still far from perfect. It currently requires that the Cygnos360 mod chip be installed on the system for certain Xbox 360 Models but runs independant of a Xbox 360 Mod Chip / Hack on earlier model Xbox 360 Dashboard versions. A resistor also needs to be removed from the board to prevent accidental kernel updating. That being said, this is still progress. If you’re interested in step-by-step details.

This means while it plays original and backups of NTSC games it would not play originals and backups from PAL Australia - until the hex code is changed back.

SYMPTOMS:
You see three lights on the Ring of Light (RoL) flash red on the front of your Xbox 360 console. The upper-right quadrant light is the only light that does not flash red.

There is a new Lite-On v2 drive in the market that first got made March 09, the USB Xtrator is not needed for these latest v2 drives and if used on these drives your spear could be damaged. The model number for the Lite-On v2 is the same DG-16D2S, but the HW Ver is A0A2 & Firmware version is 83850C.
