Play Movies & Wii Games off a Wii® USB Hard Drive |
Wii Hard Drive Game Size / Wii HDD Hard Drive Sizes
While Sony and Microsoft both have 120GB and 250GB Hard Drive Size Console Packs- Nintendo Wii although a smaller Console can have a 1000GB HDD.
Some reports incorrectly state That the Wii Hard Drive can only be seen in a Maximum 500GB partition - This is Not True.
Wii Hard drives can be installed in 650GB 720GB and 1000GB USB 2.0 Pocket Drives without Partitions. Nintendo Wii HDD can be installed as a WBFS Partition when using Wii USB Loader GX or can also be used in its Native FAT32 PC Format using ULoader which encapsules each game as a WBFS File on a Fat 32 Drive.
Those expecting their next-generation games consoles to be big and bulky (a la the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3) will be more than surprised when they see the Wii in the flesh. The console is smaller -- much smaller -- than either the 360 or the PS3. Although not as petite as a slimline PS2, the Wii is compact and discreet enough to be a nice fit in most living room situations. Just like the 360, the Wii can either be stored flat or on its side. Nintendo have provided a special grey stand for those wanting to store their Wii sitting up -- this stand lets the Wii sit on an attractive angle.

WII HARD DRIVE MODDING and WII UPGRADES NEWS / REVIEWS
Turn your Wii into a home media center with support for many popular music and video formats including MP3, AVI, MP4, etc. By unlocking your Nintendo Wii you can play lots of homebrew applications and access homebrew channels such as Wii Earth and Pong.
When you unlock your Wii will be able to play all sorts of new formats that will let your Wii run wild! (You’ll be able to play music and video formats including MP3, AVI, MP4, etc.)
You can also play imported games from all regions including USA (NTSC) and Europe (PAL). One of my favorites, you can now play games from Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and other classic consoles right from your Wii.
QUOTE FROM AN INDEPENDANT WWW. MODCHIP HACK SITE:
New DVD drive for Wii® unmoddable
There is a new DVD drive that started appearing in Wii in Australia. So far the lowest serial number it has been found in is LAH1162xxxx. Anything under that is probably safe to work with Drivekey/WasabiDX, anything over that number will probably not work.
We advise customers in Australia and world wide to hold off buying a modchip if their wii was purchased after August 15th 2009.
|
Brakken, the master modchip reviewer writes "The Drivekey is the easiest modchip I've ever installed in my life" read about it here
FPGA fully updatable via JTAG external programmer
JTAG software automatically downloads individually signed updates from DriveKey server
SPI fully updatable via DVD
Fully configurable update blocker
Fully configurable region override
Enable/Disable DriveKey via the config menu
Config option to autoboot Wii discs (insert the disc, the game will load immediately!) Best of all, there is no need to burn/run a DVD to access the config options -- you just press the eject button 3 times and presto! The config system loads directly from the SPI Flash!
The DriveKey Modchip, along with is another breakthrough device in the Wii modchip world. The makers of the modchip are the same guys that brought you Wiikey v2, and D2pro, the 2 most popular modchips on the market before this was released.
All conventional modchips, before this, work in the same way. Modchlips like wiikey v2 utilizes a flaw in the security chip on the Wii. The issue with this method is that Nintendo keep on changing the DVD drives. The first was DMS, then D2B, D2C, D2C2, D2E...etc. It wasn't a major issue, because modchips like the wiikey v2 worked on all of these consoles, and with the aid of a solderless clip, installation was very easy. Then in Novemeber 2008, Nintendo started to put Epoxy glue over the security chip (pictured below). The Drive can still be modded, but not with a solderless clip. The epoxy needs to be heated to about 250+ degrees, and melted away. This is no easy task, and very easy to stuff up. At the same time, Nintendo in December 2008, start including what we call "D2Nothing drives" inside some wiis. Pictured below on the right, you can see that the security chip is totall missing - which means there is no where to put conventional modchips!
QUOTE FROM AN INDEPENDANT WWW. MODCHIP HACK SITE:
The code name for these wiis are "D3" or "D2nothing". There isn't a way you can tell if the wii has it for D2e with Exposy without opening your wii really. Not to worry as the 4th generation of chips come out! First there is FlatMii, which is a chip that allow you to load ISOs from your PC, it works on ALL wiis, and you do not even need a working DVD drive for it to function. Then there is Drivekey and Wasabi Dx, identical products that are 100% solderless on all wiis, including the epoxy ones, and the new D3 wiis. All 3 solutions are plug and play once the wii is open, with no soldering required at all.
In the never ending quest to block wii modchips the newer wiis look the exactly the same as the D3 security chips, but the hardware is slightly different. Nintendo have removed the flaw in the DVD drive that allows plug and play modchips to work. The new "IN" thing is DVD drive emulation, with leads to ISO loading. Wiikey fusion allows loading from an SD card, WODE allows ISO loading from a harddrive!
