Connecting your Wii Online - Nintendo Wii Wifi

nintendo wii wifi

To be able to connect your Wii online, you must meet the following requirements:

You must have an existing broadband internet connection, such as Cable or DSL. If you are not sure if your internet connection is broadband or not, please consult your Internet Service Provider.

A compatible Internet Service Provider (ISP). While most services are compatible with the Wii, some ISPs do not allow additional devices to be connected to a network. Consult your ISP for more information.

The Wii must be able to access your broadband connection. This can be accomplished in one of three ways:

A wireless router (recommended): Wii is compatible with most wireless routers and their security features.
Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector: * Even if you don't have a wireless network for all your home devices, you can still set up a wireless connection for your Wii.

If you have a PC running Windows XP 32 Bit or Vista 32 or Windows 7 32 ( Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit can Run XP Virtual Console - in 32 BIT XP Mode is also Compatible ) directly connected to your broadband Internet access, you can plug the separately sold Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector into an open USB port on the PC. Once you install the software that's included with the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, wirelessly connecting your Wii is easy.

A wired access point using the Wii LAN Adapter: If you have a wired access point, such as wired router or broadband modem, the Wii LAN Adapter can be used to enable an ethernet connection from your wired access point to the USB ports on the Wii console. The Wii LAN Adapter (sold separately).

* Please note that at this time, the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector software is not compatible with Windows Vista 64 BIT. You can run Windows XP 32 Bit in a Virtualization Software ( Eg. Paralells / VMWare Workstation / Virtual Console / Virtual Box etc ) from Vista 64 Bit and Windows 7 64 Bit and XP 64 Bit Please check back for future updates, as our engineers are currently working on a potential solution for 64 Bit Drivers.

Nintendo Wii Wireless Connection — Search For An Access Point

Probably the easiest method to get your Wii online is through a wireless router. Nintendo has information on choosing a router compatible with the Wii here.

First, you’ll need to search for an access point. On the Wii main menu, click on the Wii button, located on the lower right-hand corner, to get to the settings screen. Then, hit Wii Settings and click on the blue arrow on the right side to go to the second page. Select the Internet button and go to Connection Settings. Click on one of the buttons to create a new connection.

From there, click Wireless Connection and then hit Search for an Access Point. The Wii will start searching for any access points nearby. Once it’s finished, click OK to continue and view the found access points.

Choose your access point from the list. The closed padlock icons mean that a security code is required and you have to input the password or key.

Continue to save the settings and the Wii will test the connection and then perform a system update if available.

Nintendo Wii Wired Connection — Wii LAN Adapter

Since the Wii doesn’t have a built-in Ethernet port, you’ll need something called the Wii LAN Adapter. Available from Nintendo and third parties, the USB-to-Ethernet adapter is used to connect the console to your home router.

First, plug in the Wii LAN Adapter to a USB port in the rear on the console. Connect an Ethernet cord from your modem or router to the Ethernet

wii_usb_lan_adaptorport on the LAN Adapter.

Then, turn on the Wii and follow the same steps of going into Wii Settings and clicking on Internet. Go to Connection Settings, create a new connection, and click on Wired Connection.

Click OK to initiate a connection test and you can then perform a system update if one’s available.

Using either of these two ways to get your Wii online, you should be all good to go. It should be noted that there’s also a device called the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector. The accessory establishes a Wi-Fi connection via a broadband-connected PC, but it has since been discontinued.

Nintendo Wii "Wi-Fi Network Adapter - Wii Wifi Router

Nintendo has announced a new way to get your Wii and Nintendo DS online. Available in Japan later this September and from Nintendo Japan’s online store the Nintendo “Wi-Fi Network Adapter.” The device is a small router that sits next to your Wii, which you can connect your Wii, Nintendo DS or any other wireless device through it. FROM AN INDEPENDANT MODCHIP HACKSITE ON WWW:

Well the 4th Generation of chips for the Wii are starting to surface, we are proud to present one of the most promising of them all the Wode Wii mod chip, the Wode is more than just a mod chip for Wii and really is a revolution in the way you will be able to play your backups and out of region games, not only does the Wode Jukebox lets you play backups of your original games and import games on disc for DMS to D3 drives, but it also has USB support, this means that you will be able to plug in external USB devices such as USB drives and even USB hard drives to store and load your games from, yes that’s right, you can now hook up a USB Hard drive to your Wii console and load all your tittles from the hard drive. This is a revolution in the way you can store and play your original Wii games, loading times are faster than anything seen before at a massive 8x read rate, no longer will you have problems with scratched disks, bad burns or even problems with burners and the right media. Note this is a great product for people that have bought consoles after Aug 09 that would have the D3-2 drives, currently there is no chip that will allow these D3-2 drives to load backup disks at all, so D3-2 owners would be able to use the Wode USB loader to load their backups of their original games from a USB HDD, this we believe is one of the best solutions for people that own these new Wii consoles with the D3-2 drives.

This feature is not available on release, but it’s planned as the first feature to be added in the Wode’s first firmware update which is the Wode Jukebox will be capable of taking a backup of your original game and then store it on your USB device, be it a USB flash drive or USB hard drive, having the ability to make a backup of your original Wii game on the Wii console itself without having to use devices such as the USB Gecko, SD Gecko or the expensive LG 8164D DVD readers is a massive feature, anyone that has had to use the USB Gecko or SD Gecko would know they are not a simple device to use and require the install of the Homebrew channel to work, for most people installing the Homebrew channel is a little over their heads and thus end up buying an expensive LG DVD reader to make their backups of their originals, these LG drives can cost as much as $150AUD each which is more than the price of Wii Wode Jukebox alone, well that is no more with the Wode mod chip, this little device does so much, boot your backup disks, allow booting from a Hard Drive and make backups of your original games to hard drive with ease.

The Wii Wode Jukebox comes with an easy to use LCD screen built into the stand that displays what titles you have on the external USB storage and a neat little toggle switch to let you navigate the hard drive, just find the title you are looking for and at the press of a button the game is loaded directly off the hard drive, it has never been this simple and practical. You can now have your entire collection of Wii games stored on a hard drive which are easily accessible using the LCD screen and toggle switch to load, all your original games can be kept in a safe place and in perfect condition, the Wode modhip really is a revolution for the Wii console and takes it to the next level, the possibilities for this device are almost endless. We are sure this little baby will be the catalyst on a host of applications that can be executed from it to add an even more deep Wii experience, the Wode is based on Linux software and thus many Linux apps could be ported to be loaded on the Wii, so expect Media Players, Web Browsers and more to be developed to be launched using this incredible device. The programmers behind the Wii Wode Jukebox are some of the most talented and respected in the homebrew community, so you can be assured that this little baby is not just a device that comes how it is and never has functions or features added, we predict over the next year many handy and useful features will be added to the Wode and like we said above, really just expand the experience you get from your Wii console This product really is something to be excited about and any Wii user that currently has a chip may even want to upgrade to the Wode as we really think these devices are so much more than a mod chip to let you play legitimate backups of your original games, they are not only a chip but a gateway to many new ways to use your Wii console.

MOD CHIPS

As some of you might know, loading games from an external hard drive was made possible early 09 via the Homebrew channel and USB loader, the downside to this is installing the homebrew channel and the USB loader can be very tricky and most end users would have no idea where to start, also softmoding and using such USB loaders you run the risk of bricking your Wii in the process, and as we have seen from the latest update from Nintendo 4.2 can be dangerous as this update detected the USB loader and softmods and would delete them from the console, and the update even bricked some machines. The Wode USB loader does not require you to install any software what so ever to work, there is no need for homebrew channel or any tricky software installs to get the device working, it’s simply plug and play which is what most people want, backing up your Wii titles with the Wode Jukebox is just as simple, which as we said above is nothing short of a breath of fresh air, because up until now making a backup of your original games has required way to much from the average end user, this feature is worth so much to the end user.

Wii Console

So in short, if you want the most enhanced experience from your Wii console, being able to boot backups of your originals, games from other regions on disk, loading from an external hard drive with the ability to make backups, store 3rd party apps and possibly even 3rd party games, the Wii Wode Jukebox modchip is really the only device you should look at, yes the price is a little higher than just a normal mod chip, but as you can see from the text above, this is really not just a mod chip, it’s a total extension of your Wii console, really in comparison, this device makes normal mod chips price look high when you compare what you get for you money, and as we said above, this little device is going to evolve and not just stay with the one basic function, there will be many new functions and uses for Wii Wode made and added as time goes by, and we know that from the fact it has a very talented programming team behind it, Wode Jukebox is the next gen must have add-on for your Wii console

Wii Modchips have been around for a while now, with the first modchip being released just 3 months after the Wii Consoles official launch. Nintendo has continued to block out modchips with new hardware revisions, and the hacking teams have always been able to adapt their modchips to these new drives. Even though we have stocked 15~20 types of modchips, the features of the modchips have always remained very similar. With a mod chip on the Wii console, you are able to play games you backup, and a certain number of games from other regions. It wasn't until June 2009 when the FlatMii team announced a massive breakthrough. They were able to emulate a DVD drive inside a modchip, and you could load ISOs from your computer. They failed to capitilize on the Wii market because the product needed you to have a PC next to your Wiii all the time!

WODE = Wii Optical Drive Emulator

One of the developers of WODE was sitting in an Audi, and was playing around with the "JukeBox" function of his CD player. His Audi allows him to insert an original music disc, and have the CD player rip the music to a hard drive in the car. He thought to himself, if i can legally do this in my Audi, why can't we do this with the Wii? Why can't we have a "JukeBox" style Wii modchip that allows you to rip games to a USB Hard Drive! You can put all your wii games onto 1 harddrive, plug it into the modchip, and keep your originals in mint condition. This was in September 2008! They have managed to keep their project secret until recently, when they unleashed the news onto the world.

The Virtual Console from Nintendo, is an online download service for the purchase and download of games and software for the Nintendo Wii games console. The Virtual Console, which is sometimes abbreviated as ‘VC’, contains video games from past Nintendo and third-party consoles, such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and the Commodore 64.

After download, the Virtual Console games are ran in their original form via a built-in game emulator specific to each of the platforms the Wii Virtual Console supports. This software emulation ensures the games (for the most part) stay true to the way they played on the original platforms, in terms of both graphical and game-play. Although this is mostly the case, occasionally games perform differently or experience graphical glitches.

Currently, the platforms supported by the Nintendo Virtual Console globally are Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, NEC TurboGrafx-16, NEC TurboGrafx-CD and SNK Neo Geo AES. In North America and Europe, the Commodore 64 is supported and in Japan, the MSX is available.

The Virtual Console Arcade, which is a relatively new addition to the Nintendo Virtual Console service, allows players to download arcade games, which are again ran under software emulation of the original arcade platforms. Where ‘credits’ are required to play an arcade game via the Virtual Console Arcade, these too are emulated.
